A guide for couples dreaming of a luxury destination wedding on the Garden Isle

There’s something undeniably magical about Kauai. Known as the “Garden Isle,” this lush Hawaiian island offers a romantic blend of wild beauty, refined elegance, and untouched landscapes—making it the perfect destination for couples envisioning a deeply memorable wedding. Planning a Kaui Wedding just became more attainable with my insight!

As a wedding photographer who treasures true-to-color, timeless imagery, Kauai is one of my favorite places to capture love stories. From the dramatic cliffs of the Na Pali Coast to the golden hour glow of Hanalei Bay, every corner of this island invites meaningful celebration and once-in-a-lifetime photographs.

If you’re considering planning a Kauai wedding, here’s everything you need to know—venues, the best time of year to say “I do,” and even some favorite local vendors who bring it all to life.

Planning a Kaui Wedding: Top Wedding Venues in Kauai

Whether you’re dreaming of a lush private estate or an oceanfront celebration, Kauai offers venues that are both stunning and exclusive.

1. Princeville Makai Golf Club: Known as Hawaii’s most beautiful bluff wedding, there is no shortage of stunning coastline views and epic sunsets.

2. Na ‘Āina Kai Botanical Gardens, North Shore
This 240-acre tropical garden is pure magic. Think sculptures, waterfalls, and wide open garden ceremony spaces. It’s ideal for couples looking for a romantic, ethereal feel in a lush setting.

3. Kukuiʻula Clubhouse & Plantation House
This private venue offers a luxurious island club experience in a peaceful, upscale atmosphere. The gardens, sweeping lanais, and rolling hills make it perfect for elevated wedding weekends with your closest loved ones.

4. Sheraton Kauai Resort: on Kaua’i’s famed Po’ipu Beach, the Sheraton Kauai boasts a variety of stunning beach front venues for weddings both large and small.

5. Hanalei Colony Resort: This secluded resort is a enchanting destination that provides the an indoor space, uncovered outdoor space, and a covered outdoor space. It is a smaller venue that can accommodate up to 60 guests, making it ideal for an intimate destination wedding.

Best Times of Year for a Kauai Wedding

Kauai’s climate is beautiful year-round, but there are a few key things to consider:

  • April to October is the drier season and ideal for beachside weddings or outdoor receptions.
  • November to March tends to be rainier, especially on the North Shore—but also offers dramatic skies, fewer crowds, and lush scenery.
  • If you’re planning a Hanalei Bay or North Shore wedding, opt for late spring through early fall for the best chance at clear skies and vibrant sunsets.

Tip: Always plan for a rain backup—even paradise has its moody days!

Tips from a Photographer Who Loves Kauai

  • Permits: If you’re eloping or holding your ceremony on a public beach or state park, you’ll need a permit from the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR). I can guide you through the process!
  • Timing Is Everything: Golden hour in Kauai is breathtaking—plan your ceremony about 3 hours before sunset for that perfect light during portraits!
  • Day-After Session: Consider a day-after adventure session. We can hike to a waterfall, explore the cliffs, or get your toes sandy at sunrise. Some of the best imagery happens when the pressure is off!
